Virgin Media is one of the largest telecommunications companies in the UK providing telephone, television, and internet 
services in the United Kingdom. It has a customer base of approximately 4.8 million cable customers.

VM’s rapid growth and continually expanding customer base meant their website was in need of a major overhaul onto a new platform.

The Challenge

Re-design Virgin Media’s public facing User Interface, with minimal reusable components, while also supporting maximum search engine optimisation.

Create flexible, configurable front-end components, which can be easily integrated with a new headless Content Management System (Strapi).

Ensure the latest brand identity can be incorporated throughout all components and content, while utilising branded interactions and Motion Design, within a fully responsive framework.

- Providing guidelines to how these should be used - both in look and feel and behaviour.

- Integrating components within the existing VM pattern library

- Where possible using one image that will work across all devices and where multiple sizes are required keeping it to a minimum

- Setting safe areas and guidelines for graphics

Under the division of Otomo TSL have developed Automation Software for bulk production of digital advertising, enabling their clients to easily reduce costs for their ad campaigns and produce multi-market and multiple versions of their creative in a fraction of the time.

Whilst still in the development stages and without any physical product to demo to a client, they needed a way to present this in a clear and engaging way. Demonstrating the process, hi-lighting it’s simplicity along with explaining its potential advantages to the client were all key factors to include. The illustrative style worked well to commuincate the message. in an engaging and accessible way.

Travel to Tokyo sits within the Getset.co.uk website.

Get Set is the British Olympic Association and British Paralympic Association’s youth engagement programme. It was originally created as the official London 2012 education programme, to deliver against Lord Coe’s vision to use the Games to inspire a generation of young people.

The purpose of ‘Travel to Tokyo’ was to engage schools and encourage users to increase their activity levels in the run-up to the Tokyo Olympics.

Users are encouraged to create teams within their school.

They can log details of their activity, including,:

The type of activity, how long they took part, how much they enjoyed it, and how hard they worked.

Once logged in they are given weekly challenges and can view statistics on their activity during that week. They can also compare their score against other schools.

I worked up detailed wireframes from an initial user journey and designed a desktop and mobile version of the site.

The site needed to fit with the ‘Get Set’ brand. I developed icons and illustrations to bring the site to life and engage with the young audience.

Black Friday is the biggest marketing campaign of the year – with ads running across TV, press, and social as well as online

For the preceding weeks and the week following Black Friday the Virgin Media website has a bespoke landing page dedicated to the Black Friday promotions across both cable and mobile, along with branded promotions across various products throughout the website – requiring updates to a variety of banners, product cards and components with ‘Black Friday’ branding

It was vital to work closely with ATL agency to ensure we had the correct files for digital production and to align the digital campaign to the press and TV and social campaigns.

Working to extremely tight deadlines as we awaited final sign-off on the ATL campaign before finalising our digital output.

We also worked closely with the SEO team to optimise the landing page for Google search, making small adjustments to our messaging.

The result was that we significantly improved our SEO ranking performance and saw 1st-page ranking for key generic terms like “Black Friday Broadband” searches.

TSL created a division of the company, named ‘Otomo’, responsible for developing their Automation Software. Otomo needed a separate identity and website as it would be marketed as a standalone product.

The primary aim of the website was to inform our potential clients about what we do and how can save them money and help their business in a clear and engaging way. Working predominantly with creative agencies we needed to reassure them that through bulk production their creative ideas were in no way compromised.

I developed the logo and branding and the ‘otobot’ character which was used throughout to help illustrate the key USPs and bring them to life through simple animations.

As a side to this project – and to better explain to our clients our product and how we work we created a short video demo which can be seen here.

Goodyear was developing a concept for a new product that is going beyond the ‘standard’ approach of improving the tyre performance, e.g. better grip, handling, braking, etc.

Project x will be an intelligent tyre to be released in 2019. It includes a chip and will communicate to an app on your smartphone.

The App will provide notifications if action is required from the user through diagnostic checks like*: tyre pressure, temperature, estimation of the remaining tread wear, grip, and seasonal tyre swap.

It also identifies the closest dealership in case of needed maintenance.

Logo / Design / Branding

TSL created a division within the company, ’On-Demand Studio’, which would deal specifically with resourcing needs.

On-Demand Studio needed a separateidentity and website as it would function as a standalone service.

My role was to design a logo and branding and initial concepts for the website.

In keeping with the other TSL sub-brand (Otomo) the style was clean and uncluttered. Simple illustrations and iconography were used to demonstrate the On-Demand service.

We created a promotional microsite for John Lewis, which would drive consumers to Pinterest.

Users are asked a small number of simple questions relating to their style and taste. They submit their answers within the mobile / microsite, they are then re-directed to Pinterest where a personalised board has been created for them populated with a mix of John Lewis products, styles, crafts and ideas relating to Christmas.

The board also contained a personalised ‘Leader Pin’ with the users name and specified styling.

Our brief was to concept and design an app for Dulux to assist consumers in their re-decoration projects.

Through research we knew that there where a number of areas where the app could provide invaluable help on the consumer journey.

Room Visualiser

Going for a bold colour for a room can be a daunting experience as its often difficult to imagine how it would look. The room visualiser allows the user to take a photo of their room and overlay colours on the wall.

Paint Calculator

One of the challenges of decorating is being unsure as to how long the job is going to take and how much paint is needed. The room calculator allows the user to simply calculate how much paint is needed, gives an approximate time needed for the job which takes into account the coats, drying time and fume evaporation time. Users can then use the store locator to find their nearest stockist of their chosen paint.

Virgin Media launched a new ATL campaign in September 2019 with the focus on their ‘Amaz-ing TV’ offering.

From a branding POV they were looking to extend their new ‘Unlimiting’ creative platform and re-inforce the message that Virgin Media gives you the ability to ‘do anything’ by being the place for amaz-ing entertainment.

The purpose of this page was to continue to communicate the benefits of the ‘Ultimate Oomph’ bundle, including, lightn-ing fast broadband, amaz-ing TV and neverend-ing mobile data, with the focus being on TV.

Facebook Campaign

To promote the new Citroen Berlingo Electric, the Facebook ‘Carousel’ was used to promote its features.

We created 2 routes for the client.

The first using real life case studies about different types of small businesses and how it can help them.

The second more focused on the benefits of electric, including benefits to the environment, and cost saving.

Samsung were exploring a new hardware line - peripherals and screens that attach to phones via a ‘smart-hinge’. These would extend the capabilities and experiences of the central phone hardware to enhance, interaction, and content consumption.

Our brief was to produce a concept video that explains and explores what a merging of new Samsung hardware and services, and Guardian UI and content would look like to a user, and what benefits it would offer them. Specifically, it needed to demonstrate what a dual-screen experience (main phone and 2-sided e-reader) could offer deep content consumption and exploration. It’s about providing an experience that can enhance discovery and storytelling. It’s not just another way to read the Guardian. We created video demonstrations for 2 scenarios.

Background

Hackney Chiropractic was set up just over a year ago, initially operating from a rented space in a fitness club in Hackney central. They were about to acquire a new independent premises with a shop style entrance and layout, meaning there will be much more scope to exercise branding and to make an impression on the local community and passing footfall.

They wanted to use this move as an opportunity to refresh and refine the branding for the practice, and to develop its applications.

Objective

Create a mood board. Consider logo, font use, colour palette, general look and feel. The board would ideally help the client to apply branding in different areas of the practice, such as web site update, flyers, shop frontage/signage etc.

Each year at the Cannes Lions international advertising festival Havas hosts the ‘Havas Café’ where they hold sessions about top creative trends in the advertising world. The cafe would be an area which acts as a hub of conversation and insight into what is the biggest buzz at the festival.

We came up with 4 ideas whereby users could use touch screens to access live social media posts and gain a sense of what subjects: agencies, people, campaigns were the most talked about over the course of the festival.

“We love creating ideas that take on a life of their own and live beyond media, campaign plans and budgets.”

A logo had been created to embody this strap-line which was used as a mural in their office space. 

They wanted bring it to life for an upcoming publication and also with the possibility of it being brought to life digitally through animation.

The Brief

The illustration should feel ‘alive’ and reflect elements of their business, It needed to be very much richer than the original logo and have much more layers and depth to it, it should include icons, gradient colours, perspective and energy.

Ultimately, it needed to be an arresting beautiful piece of art that can be a focal point in their agency.
